Page updated: 01/21/2026 14:02:17 Tex Lowther ObituaryTyrone “Tex” Gary Lowther, 85, of Ridgeland, SC passed away May 23, 2024, at his home. He was born on January 23, 1939, in Ridgeland, SC to the late Mr. and Mrs. Owen Roosevelt and Pearl Phillips Lowther. “Tex” was active in his community and had a passion for vintage cars and music. He worked in radio broadcasting as a D.J. for thirty-five years. In 1979, he was awarded a citation by the governor of Georgia for remaining on air during hurricane David. He was a past president and vice-president of the Gopher Hill Festival Committee in Ridgeland, SC and a member of Dixieland Cruisers of Savannah, GA. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Barbara Blount Lowther, one son, Krey Lowther (Faye), five daughters, Angel Usher (Steve), Gay Finch (Robbie), Tonya Jackson (James), Nikki Mason (Scott), Hayley Eby (Jeremy), eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren and one on the way. He was predeceased by one brother, R.B. Lowther, three sisters, Ellen Hogsett, Audrey Altman and Thelma Day. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday May 27, 2024, at Ridgeland Cemetery, Ingram Street, in Ridgeland, SC. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 am until the hour of the service at the cemetery.
