I removed what was left of the floor, rockers and door post, cleaned braces really good and began fitting inner rockers first. I installed new floor pans and rockers and painted them to stop surface rust.
I installed quarters and door post from the first 55 I had bought. That car had been torn down and left in the weather by the previous owner and was a total loss. What a shame. The lower quarters where supposedly the best on the market but where shaped wrong and will require a lot of filler to ever look right. The new doors are really nice but so far I've found the tops are too short to meet the roof. Luckily I'll be using the Bel Air trim on them so it'll make fixing that problem a little easier.
Sprayed the new stuff to keep it from surface rusting and stuck the trim around the windows to check the fit.
I set an engine block in with all the parts to build the mounts before removing the body from the frame. The engine had to come forward about an inch for the Nova fender well headers to clear the firewall. The tall valve covers are a must because of the rollers rockers and stud girdles otherwise I had a nice pair of finned Edelbrocks. Also with this intake we'll have to cut a hole in the new front-end. Much modification had to be done on the driver side. The firewall mounts had to be cut, the brake booster will have to be moved up and at this point we decided to go with a rack and pinion instead of the updated P/S box for clearance reasons. I really want to use these headers. |
